Shop Small: My Small Business Story

Shop Small: My Small Business Story

When you shop small at a small business, you are supporting communities, families, and individuals. Here’s is just a little bit of my story, and how shopping small at my business helps me.

Is 2024 Done Yet?

It’s Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I made a grocery run to town yesterday. I’m hurting from my Ankylosing Spondylitis and Osteoarthritis. I’m pushing to make sure I have adequate inventory prepped and lined up for Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday.

I’m home alone this Thanksgiving, and before you feel bad for me, I’m ok with it. I’m roasting 16 lbs of pork butt to feed me for the next two weeks. That was the best price on meat. And who doesn’t like pulled pork with New Mexico green chiles.

I’m thinking about doing some live streams over the weekend. That way when you need a break from your family, you can quietly sneak away and hang out. Live streams If I do them won’t be sales however, they’ll just be hangouts and talk about rocks or whatever.

It has been a tough year. Frankly, the first three and a half months of the year, I was only going through the motions. I was deep in grief after my mom passed away. There was some friction between my dad and I. I was chasing medical appointments across the state for my first SSA disability denial.

Bus Build

In July, I started making plans to build my skoolie tiny home. I have the bus. I just installed new start batteries. Very shortly, I will be draining and replacing the old fuel. Fingers crossed, she’ll start. Once I know she’ll run, I’ll need filters and fluid changes. Then the build begins. All but one set of seats had been pulled when I bought the bus in 2010. I need to pull the sub floor to check for and treat rust. Then the build really begins.

We have a large scrap metal pile and tons of old wood and lumber. I will be reclaiming what I can, and purchasing or trading for the rest. I’ll be publishing a list of specific items I need. If you’re interested in trading email or send me a message . I’ll need items like a generator, solar panels and controllers, inverters, appliances, etc. I have plenty of rocks to trade and probably some other stuff as well.

I’ll be documenting the bus build on my personal blog if you want to follow along.

Gratitude & Reflection

To the folks who have been following and encouraging me in this endeavor since the beginning, and those who have joined the community along the way, please know you have my deepest gratitude.

My Mantra for the year is ~Self Care ~Purpose ~Creation ~Gratitude. The hardest of these has been self care. I have stuck to my purpose and continue to work on building an amazing rockhounding community around rosebud agate with your help. And I have deep gratitude for each one of you who has made a purchase this year, liked a post, shared my YouTube channel, or left a kind comment.

Thank You!!

Shop Small Black Friday Weekend

This small business weekend shop small at Willett Creek Agate Co to find big deals on rocks and minerals of all sizes.

As always there will be deals on rosebud agate, and I will be introducing a new dark purple/blue variety from new seam exposure that Clint Nagel and I dug last weekend.

I will also be featuring Amarillo petrified wood. I acquired this material in a recent trade, and will be selling some both in the shop and during the Boneyard Freedom Extravaganza weekend on Facebook. If you’re not familiar with Amarillo petrified wood, it is know for it’s vivid colors, and intricate detail of the trees internal structures. Most is Araucaria a Conifer that is found primarily in the southern hemisphere today. Approximately 170 million years ago, during the late Triassic period, there was a forest of Araucaria near what is now Amarillo Texas that produces this amazing rare petrified wood.
